360 Modena
Desiring an automobile with superior performance, aerodynamics, and safety, Ferrari engineers exceeded the challenge with the technologically advanced and beautifully styled 360 Modena. This is the first Ferrari street car to utilize aluminum for its chassis, body, engine, and suspension.
Once again Ferrari has taken a classic design concept and pushed the limits of modern technology. Extruded aluminum components and light weight castings comprise this extremely strong space frame structure. Utilizing aerospace technology, engineers placed emphasis on improving Mig-welding, casting, riveting, and bonding methods. Very thin stressed aluminum panels provide the beautiful bodywork. Proprietary alloys and techniques were developed exclusively for the construction of this vehicle.
Although slightly larger than the F355, the Modena’s unique aluminum design yielded a car weighing 28% less with 40% greater rigidity. By making many body components multifunctional, engineers were able to decrease the actual number of parts which also contributed to the weight reduction.
Hoping to promote the Modena, Ferrari offered another version in the form of the Challenge Series.
